Honda CR500 The Beast!

I have been riding dirt bikes for years. It wasn't until i purchased the BEAST that I realized a dirt bike can produce so much brute power and scary fast speed. The bike will blow away any 250 off the line. I produces 58HP and 48.5lbs of torque.
This bike is not for novice riders! You need alot of upper body strenght and agility to handle this monster. I have ridden some of my friends 4 strokes, and although they are smooth and fast, they just don't provide the thrill of a monster two stroke! Its a shame that Honda stopped making them, and have replaced it with the CRF450. I guess in todays world of couch potatoes, this bike was too much for the average rider! I would like to hear from anyone else who has ridden a CR500 or CRF450. What do you think of The BEAST!

Yes, This is so true! I have bruise on my insole from, one occasion when my plug fouled out. The damn thing takes a act of congress to kick over! The Cr250 is a great bike as well, I live in Colorado, the Altitude here requires a little more brute HP, to get up the hills!

Yes, CR250 Is a great bike as well, But, with altitude, I need POWER! For it takes alot to get me up the hills at rampart!
I have yet to test out the CRF450 hear its a great bike as well!

Service Honda is still building CR500's. They take a current CR250 and cram a new CR500 motor into it. Check out www.servicehonda.com/CR500AF.html

A friend of mine has one that was built in '01 or '02. A beast indeed.

I'm loving my YZ250f. After having one of the first 400f's I am having so much fun on the small bore bike. I can ride it much more aggressive and can actually control the bike, instead of the other way around !

Thanks for the link, very intersting! I was not aware there was anyone building custom CR500's. I would really like one of these but $8300 is really steep! Do you ride motocross or trails? Is the Yz a 4stroker, not too up on Yamaha models I rode a friends newer YZ400 and it was really a smooth powerband compared to the Beast!

A good friend of mine has a kx 500. The bike weighs 245 lbs and has about 60 hp. He bought it off of some desert racer. It is pretty tricked out

I rode it. it actually has a relatively smooth powerband, And a ridiculous amount of power. The back tire digs a trench when you hit the throttle.

I have a 1996 rmx 250, just had eric Gorr rebuild and port my top end. This bike has too much power for me. I would actually like to get a less powerfull bike.

I rode hollister with a guy who was riding a TM80 It is a full sized bike 21" up front 18" or 19" in the back ,with a 80cc motor.....he smoked everone who we were riding with, and it was not a group of novices. IT s not the bike, it is the rider.

having owned a 250 2stroke trial bike and a yz 125L I thought they were ok, I once rode my younger brothers 02 (at the time it was current) CR250, MAN!!!! did it hammer :) i was totally blow'n away by the sheer power of this thing, I couldnt even get it tappet out in anything under 3 Gear, Even then I was in fear I would find my self on my ass!

Being a Car Freak mostly my self, Iv always strived for more power, the better hahahahahaah.
I have ALWAYS WANTED TO NOT ONLY to RIDE a big bore 2stroke, But to own one, even if i only ever rode this monster in the dunes. Only then will my life goals be near compleation =)
    I envy you!!!!!

I've got an old '88 KTM 500 that's in pretty decent shape but I don't ride it much anymore. It was rated at 62 hp at 6500 rpm stock. I put a Z Racing pipe and carb on it and it turned it into a total rocketship. My WR 400 and 450 are much easier to ride for longer periods, but the KTM was so much fun on hillclimbs and big road jumps. I could pull third gear starts when I raced motocross on that thing. It would accelerate so hard that my vision would blur and I'd have to pull my arms forward to stay up on the front of the seat.

The KTM 500 I hear is a real rocketship. It is definitely in the same class as the BEAST. These are the last of a dying breed of 2 stroke, kick ass dirt bikes. Similar to the muscle cars of the 70's. Now we have 4 strokes with electric starts, and heated seats, I am suprised they have not put gps, and satellite radio on them.

Yeah, The big bore 2 Stroke are the last of a dying breed! In todays culture of latte's and yoga, there aren't many folks up to the task of riding a bike with pure power. It does take alot of upper body strenght to keep the thing upright. But don't envy me!
I cracked a rib this summer riding the beast, took 3 months to heal!

Hail to the CR500 and all of Honda's magic. I just bought a 88 CR500 about a month and a half ago, I've put about 5 hours on it and man I tell you this bike rips!!!! Definatly way funner than any 250 I've ridden. I've ridden a YZF400 a YZF426 a YZF250 a CFR450 and many more newer bikes but the 500 is the fastes and funnest, besides being a tad bit heavy, other than that its the best bike I've put a leg over.

the CR500 stopped production in 01 or 02 I forget but those bikes had less power then the 85-89's, but the wieght and suspension differences make it a great bike as well
